The latest interview with Żurnalisty brought sharp criticism directed at politicians and media regarding cryptocurrencies. Sławomir Mentzen mercilessly points out the lack of knowledge among decision-makers about digital assets, comparing the domestic 'medieval' state to global standards. The leader of the Confederation believes that in the matter of cryptocurrencies, Poland is far behind the civilized world.
Is this the final whistle to wake up Poland?
Sławomir Mentzen with accusations against politicians
Sławomir Mentzen was a guest on the latest podcast from the Żurnalisty channel. Although the entire conversation mainly focused on politics, Mentzen wouldn't be himself if he didn't mention cryptocurrencies.
The politician did not hold back when the topic turned to the Polish public debate on digital assets. The leader of Nowa Nadzieja makes the issue clear: while global financial markets are adopting blockchain technology, Polish politicians and media remain trapped in a bubble of myths and prejudices. In his view, the level of knowledge about cryptocurrencies in rural areas is decidedly too low.
In his conversation with Żurnalisty, the politician refers to the recent parliamentary debate on the cryptocurrency bill. Mentzen describes it as a meeting of people who "have no idea what they're talking about." Instead of a substantive discussion about opportunities for the economy, we hear from the podium about "Russian services" and "mafia." This narrative effectively blocks the development of the industry in Poland, pushing us to the margins of innovation.
"It was just a gathering of people who have no idea what they're talking about and are spouting the wildest theories imaginable. [...] Here we have a debate that these cryptocurrencies are Russian services, mafia, and just stop it, we don't want this kind of thing in Poland because we don't understand it at all. Complete nonsense."
Mentzen accurately points out the contrast between Poland and the West. He emphasizes that "the entire civilized world is moving toward cryptocurrencies." As examples, he cites banks switching en masse to blockchain technology or the ability to take out loans secured by digital assets.
The politician also referred to Adrian Zandberg, who mocked the idea of investing pension funds in cryptocurrency. Mentzen retorts that what amuses the leader of Razem is becoming standard in official government programs in the West.
Do journalists agree with nonsense?
Mentzen's criticism extends not only to ruling coalition politicians and the Left but also to mainstream media. In the guest's view, mainstream journalists do not verify false claims made by opponents of cryptocurrencies. When politicians spout nonsense about dangers posed by digital currencies, no one corrects them.
Sławomir Mentzen positions himself in this discourse as a voice of reason and innovation, who understands the mechanisms driving the modern economy. His statement to Żurnalisty is a clear signal: either Poland opens up to new financial technologies, or we will become a backwater of Europe, where we fear innovation instead of profiting from it.
