Lỗ hổng này bắt nguồn từ việc tài khoản NPM của một lập trình viên uy tín bị chiếm quyền, cho phép kẻ xấu chèn mã độc vào các gói dữ liệu đã được tải xuống hơn 1 tỷ lần. Mã độc này có thể tự động thay đổi địa chỉ ví trong các giao dịch, tiềm ẩn nguy cơ đánh cắp tài sản.
Thiệt hại được hạn chế nhờ may mắn
Tuy nhiên, trong một diễn biến cập nhật, cuộc tấn công đã "gần như thất bại" do sai sót kỹ thuật của kẻ tấn công, khiến kế hoạch nhanh chóng bị phát hiện.
