BSC Fermi Hard Fork Set for January 14, 2026

The BNB Smart Chain (BSC) network is getting ready for a major technical upgrade with the launch of its Fermi hard fork on January 14, 2026.

This hard fork will improve network performance and scalability by reducing the block interval. Making the time between blocks from around 750~ milliseconds to roughly 450~ milliseconds. It doesn’t sound like much but this change will make transaction confirmations faster and more efficient, which helps everything built on BSC from applications to DeFi protocols. This also benefits BNB & memecoin traders who will have quicker finality.

To ensure the upgrade goes smoothly, all validators and node operators on BSC are being asked to upgrade their software to versions v1.6.4 or v1.6.5 ahead of time. Nodes that don’t upgrade risk falling out of consensus and losing some block production privileges ...

The Fermi fork also includes several underlying protocol improvements, including changes to validator voting parameters and communication mechanisms. This helps keep the network stable and reliable as block times speed up, ensuring smoother operation even at higher performance levels.

This hard fork is a significant infrastructure milestone for BSC heading into 2026, reflecting the ongoing battle to enhance speed, efficiency, and resilience across the crypto ecosystems.
