What Is Lombard (BARD)?
Lombard is a Bitcoin infrastructure protocol designed to bring liquid staking, cross-chain connectivity, and yield opportunities to BTC holders. Its core innovation is LBTC, a liquid version of Bitcoin that remains fully backed 1:1 by native BTC while also generating yield.
At the foundation of Lombard’s design is Babylon staking, which allows BTC holders to delegate their Bitcoin to help secure proof-of-stake networks. In return, they can earn rewards in different tokens. The earned rewards are then converted back into BTC and added to protocol reserves, ensuring that LBTC remains fully backed.
To safeguard operations, Lombard is governed by the Lombard Security Consortium, a group of independent members responsible for validating deposits, redemptions, and staking activity. Beyond oversight, the consortium operates the Lombard Ledger, a dedicated blockchain that records all transactions and governance outcomes. The ledger serves as a transparent and auditable source of truth for the network, ensuring that every action can be independently verified.
The protocol also introduces vaults and a DeFi marketplace. Lombard’s DeFi marketplace brings together Bitcoin-based strategies across blockchains, offering lending, borrowing, liquidity provision, and structured products in a unified dashboard. Meanwhile, vaults automate the deployment of LBTC across multiple protocols, compounding rewards and adjusting allocations based on market conditions. These tools are designed to simplify access to diversified yield opportunities, allowing users to benefit without actively managing positions themselves.
BARD is the native token of the Lombard protocol. It grants governance rights through the Liquid Bitcoin Foundation, where holders can vote on proposals related to fees, product development, and grants. Staking BARD also secures the LBTC cross-chain bridge and Lombard Ledger while offering holders incentives such as early product access and yield opportunities.
The circulating supply of BARD token is 225 million, with a total supply of 1 billion tokens.
