The stolen data went straight to fake domain (metrics-trustwallet.com) registered just days earlier. Hackers then restored wallets on other devices and drained everything; no approvals needed.
The damage (as of Dec 26):
🔹Over $7 MILLION stolen in BTC, ETH, SOL, BNB Chain, and more
🔹Hundreds of users hit; some lost six figures in minutes
🔹Funds already laundered through ChangeNOW, FixedFloat, KuCoin, HTX, etc.
CZ (Binance founder) confirmed:
"So far, $7m affected by this hack. Trust Wallet will cover. User funds are SAFU."
He also hinted this may have been an insider job; attackers somehow bypassed the update process to get malicious code into the official Chrome Web Store.
Trust Wallet's urgent advice:
🔹Do NOT open v2.68 (disable it immediately)
🔹Update to v2.69 ONLY from the official Chrome Web Store
🔹If you used v2.68 and entered/imported your seed phrase → assume compromise and move any remaining funds to a new wallet ASAP
🔹Mobile app users are safe – this was browser extension only
This is a brutal reminder: even trusted, non-custodial wallets can be hit by supply-chain attacks. Browser extensions are high-risk – one bad update and your keys are gone.
In 2025 alone, crypto hacks already topped $3.4 BILLION. Stay paranoid, verify EVERY update, and never rely on "it won't happen to me."
